Careers Insights for Post-16 Pupils

Omagh CBS educates boys between the ages of 11 and 19 years who live in its large catchment area, which extends across most of West Tyrone. It has almost 1,000 pupils and over 100 staff.

Sonya Darcy is the Head of Chaplaincy and the Head of Year 12. She also teaches RE, History and LLW.

In this clip Sonya tells us how Omagh CBS have successfully given career insights and given careers advice for subject options all online.

• A Year Group Team allowed Head of Year to complement the work of the Careers Department and liaise with Heads of Schools to support pupils’ decision making

• Weekly Assemblies online discussed dreams and aspirations of our pupils

• Webinars with Head of Careers were valuable

• Microsoft Forms good to collate subject choices

• Online Polls gave pupils an opportunity to consider their academic and personal goals and set targets to meet these. It also gives Head of Year an insight into all pupils in the Year Group so a more in depth.

• Guest Speakers (past pupils) from various career pathways discuss their A Level choices and give an insight into their career.
